Senior Accountant
The Senior Accountant assists the Finance team with the reporting and analysis of various accounts within the London Drugs Group of Companies.
This role is highly GL intensive and involves parsing through large amounts of data for multiple legal entities and reconciling several accounts. It is important to have sharp technical skills, a high degree of discipline, attention to detail as this position involves multiple tight deadlines and accounting for GL transactions for various companies in different industries.
This position will work closely with the team of Financial Analysts and Staff and Senior Accountants to ensure timely close of monthly, quarterly, and annual processes. From time to time the Senior Accountant may be requested to represent and support the Finance team on special projects and assist management as circumstances arise and secure supervisory experience.
Key responsibilities include:
- Timely and accurate reconciliation of GL accounts, preparation of audit working papers, variance analysis and other duties as assigned.
- Protect and maintain confidentiality of all financial and operational information.
- Complex account reconciliations for both Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss accounts providing comparison against prior years and budgets.
- Create and maintain continuity schedules for select GL accounts.
- Prepare reconciliation of intercompany accounts, summarize, prepare and post journal entries for related party transactions.
- Assist with the preparation of mid-year and annual audit working papers and work closely with the Finance team and the auditors to ensure deliverables are completed in a timely manner.
- Performing detailed and summarized variance analysis for various accounts to assist in month-end, quarter and year-end closing for the various companies within the group
- Update and maintain schedules for prepaids, accruals, leases and other accounts for multiple entities and departments.
- Assist with month-end, quarter and year-end tasks related for variance analysis, posting accruals and capital expense reclasses.
- Remittance of any regulatory reports for various business units.
- Assist with the accounting and reporting requirements for all business units and any new companies that may be added to the London Drugs Group.
- Preparation of schedules and reconciliations in support of monthly financial statement preparation.
- Providing monthly and annual information reporting to Statistics Canada as required.
- Works with management team to ensure a clean and timely midyear and year-end audit as well as outside regulatory audits.
- Support management team with special projects and workflow process improvements.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Demonstrate good interpersonal skills when dealing with customers, staff & management.
- Strong administrative skills.
- Highly organized and able to multitask effectively and work under changing priorities.
- Initiative to isolate and solve problems.
- Ability to relate to all levels of personnel.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
- Ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure.
- Keen attention to detail and highly organized.
Education and Knowledge:
- Designated CPA or Final stage (passed Final examination and working on qualifying practical experience requirements) of being designated CPA in Canada.
- Strong technical accounting skills coupled with knowledge of ASPE and IFRS
- Experience in Retail industry is an asset.
- Strong computer skills with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Experience working with a large ERP system such as D365 and Peoplesoft.
